Writing Emails in Spanish Is Slow? Speak English, Type Spanish

You can say it instead. In the body of a Gmail or Outlook message, switch to the YOURIO voice keyboard, turn on translation with Spanish as the target, and speak English: the Spanish is typed right at your cursor. Recognition and translation run on your phone, free with no word limit. If the result sounds too casual, select it and say "make it more formal", and Edit rewrites it in place.
You know what to say. Writing it in Spanish is the slow part
A client in Mexico City emails in the morning: when will the samples ship, and is there any room on the price? You know the answer and could say it in English in three minutes. In Spanish you build each sentence by hand, checking verb endings and whether it should be tú or usted, and a five-line reply takes twenty minutes. Three more are waiting.
Sales reps with clients abroad, buyers who deal with overseas suppliers, researchers answering international partners: many of them read the other language well enough to judge a draft. What's slow is writing it from nothing.
What people usually do, and the friction
- Write in English, then paste it into a translation site. You type everything twice, copy and paste back and forth, and the formatting often breaks.
- Dictate directly in Spanish. That means speaking Spanish fluently first, which is the part that's hard.
- Ask an AI chatbot to write the whole email. It works, but it's another window, and the email and your client's details go into it too.
With YOURIO: speak English inside the email, get Spanish
You never leave Gmail or Outlook:
- Start a new message, tap in the body and switch to the YOURIO keyboard.
- Check that Translate is on and the target language is Spanish.
- Say one or two sentences at a time and glance at the Spanish that appears.
- When you're done, read the whole thing once, then fix or adjust the tone.

| Hi Lucía, thanks for your email yesterday. | Hola, Lucía, gracias por tu correo de ayer. |
| The samples will ship on October 20, and I'll send you the tracking number tomorrow. | Las muestras se enviarán el 20 de octubre y mañana te envío el número de seguimiento. |
You can talk naturally. With Magic on, filler words such as "um" are removed and a correction like "at three, no, four" keeps only the last version, before the text is translated. You don't choose the source language; the phone detects that you're speaking English.
Five habits that make the translation better
- Keep sentences short, one idea each. Long sentences full of "because", "so" and "although" are the easiest to garble.
- Say who's doing what. "We'll reply by Friday" translates more reliably than "reply by Friday".
- Check names, company names and product codes. Names that keep coming out wrong can go in your personal dictionary.
- Check every number, date and amount. That's the part of an email that can't be wrong.
- Unsure about a passage? Switch to "Original + translation". Compare the two, then delete your English line.
Wrong tone? Select the Spanish and say "make it more formal"
Machine translation often gets the meaning right and the register wrong. Spanish makes this visible: tú is friendly, usted is what you'd use with a client you've never met. Select the passage, tap Edit, then AI Edit, and say what you want: "make it more formal", "make it more polite", "shorten it to three sentences". Edit rewrites it right there in the email. You can give the instruction in English; the Spanish stays Spanish.

Edit is a cloud AI feature: it sends only the text you selected, never audio. Signing in to YOURIO AI gives you 2,000 free words a week, YOURIO Pro is US$2.99 a month (the price your app store shows is the real one), or you can use your own API key. More examples are in changing a message's tone by voice.
Outlook on your computer works the same way: use your phone as the microphone, leave translation on, speak English, and the Spanish appears at the cursor on your Mac or PC.
Be clear about what it is: machine translation
- Translation quality is your phone's translation engine. Everyday emails usually come out fine, but wording can be stiff and the meaning is occasionally wrong.
- Read important emails before you send them. Quotes, contract terms and replies to complaints deserve a sentence-by-sentence check, or a colleague who writes Spanish well.
- It doesn't know your relationship. A client of ten years and a supplier you've never met need different tones. You decide, then use Edit to adjust.
- Edit needs a connection. Translation happens on the phone, but rewriting the tone goes to the cloud AI you chose.
Set it up in three minutes

Frequently asked questions
Can I speak English and have a Spanish email typed for me?
Yes. In Gmail, Outlook or any other app, switch to the YOURIO voice keyboard, turn on translation with Spanish as the target, and speak English: the Spanish is typed at your cursor. Recognition and translation run on your phone, free with no word limit.
Can I send the translated email as it is?
For everyday emails, usually yes, but it's machine translation: wording can be stiff and occasionally wrong. Read important emails such as quotes, contracts and complaint replies before sending, and check names, numbers and dates in particular.
Can I make the Spanish more formal?
Yes. Select the text and use Edit: say "make it more formal" and YOURIO rewrites it in place, keeping it in Spanish even if you give the instruction in English. Edit is a cloud AI feature that sends only text; YOURIO AI gives you 2,000 free words a week after signing in, or you can use your own API key.
Does this work in Outlook on my computer?
Yes. Install YOURIO Receiver on your Mac or Windows PC, pair it with your phone, hold the talk key and speak into your phone. Translation follows your phone's settings, the Spanish is typed at your computer's cursor, and only the encrypted text travels to the computer.
